corberán: "The team are eager to get back to competing"

The coach talks before the meeting with RCD Mallorca

Valencia CF coach Carlos Corberán spoke to the media ahead of his side's home game against RCD Mallorca on Sunday.

Sadiq's fitness

“Sadiq was at the Ciudad Deportiva yesterday, working and getting back into the swing of things, but he couldn't train today due to a fever. Everyone else is fine. The normal thing would be for Sadiq to train tomorrow.”

Returning to action

“The team are eager to get back to competing. We haven't played at Mestalla for 20 days, and we're eager to be reunited with the fans and fight again, moving forward with them toward our goal. That desire is shared. I've seen the squad's eagerness during this break, and they've told me they're ready to get back to the competition.”

The workload

“We can take advantage of the fact that there's no game to play to work on things. I'm very happy with the level of dedication, willingness, and hard work from the players who haven't been called up for their national teams. I'm very happy with them.”

The team's objective

“We're aware of the hard work we have ahead of us to achieve our goal. I see great effort and commitment from everyone at Valencia CF.”

His choice of forward

“I'm not ruling out any option. I have a lot of confidence in them, and they work very well every day. I always keep  all the players we have in my plans. We're going to need the best from everyone. Any of them can play.”

Diakhaby

“When a player is called up for his national team, he's completely at the mercy of the decisions that go into a match. The important thing for me is that they come back as best as possible.”

International breaks

“We need to adapt to the competitive calendar and we have to try to optimise our opportunities. I haven't thought about whether it would be better to combine them. There are international commitments and games for clubs, which are the ones that matter to us, and we try to manage them in the best possible way.”

A possible purchase of Sadiq

“I understand the debates. I feel lucky to have him in the team, just as I feel lucky to have  the large group I have at my disposal.”

Rafa Mir

“Whenever a player works and gives his all, he has the best chances of playing. Then you have to make decisions. I'm very satisfied with the work and commitment of the players who stayed here during the break.”

RCD Mallorca

“They are a team that have resources in terms of squad players and merit in terms of collective performance. They are a team that play passing football, are direct, press man-to-man… Their position in the table reflects their performance. We will have to have a complete game.”

Arrasate

“I have enormous respect for the work he's done with RCD Mallorca and CA Osasuna. He's demonstrating the level of coach he is. In preseason in England, we played a friendly against RCD Mallorca."
